Alex Lives in the North east of England with his wife and three children and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He works in counselling therapy, person centred care/ support , entertainment and is also a popular writer of books on counselling.
Alex started studying psychology based subjects in 2000 when working with people who live with physical and learning disabilities at a Day Centre. It was his aim to encourage a culture of support rather than dependency, and assist people to fulfill their potential in order to maintain a sense of self esteem. In 2005 he established Self Process workshops at the Day Centre which was aimed at encouraging therapeutic discussion and stimulate self confidence. In 2007 many of the service users left the Day Centre and with the support of the local government set up and began to manage their own day service for people who have disabilities which has become extremely successful. Alex continues working as a support worker at the Day Centre. You can read about Alex's approach in the paperback 'Hierarchy of Needs in Care & Support'.
Alex worked with Contact Mental Health Group in Morpeth from 2005 till 2010 offering Counselling and personal development workshops.
The workshops proved very popular, attracting people from all over the north east to attend. Life coaching was combined with psychotherapy to encourage people to make long term plans for the future and move toward volunteer work and employment. Alex also worked as a counsellor with Escape Family Support from 2006 till 2007 for people effected by alcohol and substance dependency. It was during this time that Alex worked with both victims and perpetrators of serious crime which has contributed greatly to his perspective on human nature.
Alex started Actualisation Resource Counselling and Certification(Arcc) in 2006 offering workshops and distance learning for subjects of a spiritual or philosophical theme. It was the intention of Arcc to emphasise ethics for practitioners that work with potentially vulnerable people but have no knowledge of the potential issues of doing so. Arcc proved successful around the globe. In 2011 Arcc became "Plessey Castle Academic" and offers acknowledgment for learning with their very own PCAc in house awards.
Alex started Alexhparker.co.uk in 2007 offering personal development in the form of counselling, workshops, life coaching and hypnotherapy. He combines theories of humanistic and cognitive behavoural, psychodynamic and biological perspectives. He is also known for advocating Hypothetical Mindfulness as a means of psychological self support. He also presents The Knight Towels/Laughing Owl phone in show at Plessey Castle Radio.
Alex continues to develop Alexhparker.com and Plessey Castle Academic and offers Psychological therapies throughout the North of England.
Alex is a writer of books on counselling and regularly publishes books based on counselling and psychotherapy on the Amazon website.
